Many TV viewers know Clint Harp from the hit home renovation series Fixer Upper, where he built custom wood furniture for designer Joanna Gaines, and from his own show on the Magnolia Network, Restoration Road with Clint Harp, which tells the inspiring revitalization stories of amazing structures across the U.S. and the people and businesses that help save them.

The master woodworker is also a business owner, podcaster, author of Handcrafted: A Wood Worker’s Story and public speaker who will share his extensive knowledge and advice with visitors to the Southern AZ Home Show.

Ahead of his visit to Tucson, Clint shared a little bit more about himself, and some of his own home and design tips:

In your opinion, what's the most underrated tool in your toolbox?

A simple pry bar.

What’s your favorite HGTV or DIY Network series?

Well, Fixer Upper on HGTV, of course! But also House Hunters International, which was my jam for years and years. And I also like this show on the Magnolia Network called Restoration Road with Clint Harp. The host is a goober, but the projects are amazing!

What do you recommend as a rule of thumb for mixing patterns or materials (i.e metals) in design and décor projects?

Contrast! If you use old and or rustic wood for an island, put a sleek top like marble on top.

When you design a room, what is the most important interior design advice you give?

Contrast is your best friend.

What is your favorite type of music to listen to when you’re working?

Rock and rap! And Edith Piaf.

What do you enjoy about being at a home show?

Meeting so many wonderful people!

What project are you currently working on?

A complete home remodel in Waco, Texas - a 100 year-old home filled with garbage and about to fall down....it’s a beauty!

What is an outdated home trend you hope doesn’t come back?

Shag rugs, wood paneling, and popcorn ceilings.

Are you a plant fanatic, or is your green thumb lacking?

No! But thankfully, my wife Kelly is!

Tell us about your pet(s).

A dog named Poppy and a cat named Linus. They are the best! If I sit

down anywhere in the house Linus will come sit in my lap and my heart rate is immediately lowered.
